I am Richard

I run Unfrozen, and I am not writing any of this from the outside.

Richard Porter, who runs Unfrozen, in a room full of people on mats

A few years ago I was the one going through the motions. Foggy, isolated, coping well enough that nobody asked. This work is what got me out of it. It cleared the fog, it got me looking at things I had been avoiding for years, and it gave me the nerve to try things again.

Before this I spent thirty years running events. It taught me to read a room fast, to track where a group is, and to hold a steady room without making it about me. That is most of what facilitation is, and I had done it a few thousand times before I ever guided a breath.

I am a certified somatic bodywork facilitator, trained in trauma-informed, body-led work. That was 300 hours over eight months, which is a good deal longer than most practitioners in this field train for: several well-known body-based methods certify people in three days. The safeguards you read about on the how it works page are not bolted on at the end. They are eight months of learning how to build a session properly.

None of that makes me finished. I am a work in progress, and so is everyone in that room. That is rather the point.

What I am not.

I am not a therapist, and this is not a replacement for therapy. I am not your doctor, and I do not diagnose anything. Plenty of people who come are in therapy and finding it useful; this sits alongside that, not instead of it.

Unfrozen is insured to £5 million for professional indemnity, public liability and medical malpractice.

What I want from it.

What I want from these sessions is simple. That you are met with the same kindness and lack of judgement I would want if I were the one lying on the floor.

I am not trying to become a fixture in your life either. My measure of success is you needing me less, not more.

Ask me first.

If there is something you would rather ask before booking, send it. It comes to me, not to an inbox somebody else checks. If this is not right for you, I will say so.
